The 10,000 ways of getting it wrong

Massive knitting fail

Thursday, 21st Jan: Due to my internet being down (Day one, and counting) I have been trying to be knitting and crocheting to a stage where I can say, "Wow, I made this without messing it up"  well that's not been the case here, the last time I went shopping I stopped off at the magazine section where I found The Woman's Weekly, home series (Jan 2010) with a whole load of patterns saying that they were easy makes, so I saw a gorgeous dress for a four year old all in pink and I though "Hey, I can do that" so off I trundled to The Wool Baa, where I was greeted with a ray of sunshine from the staff and other shoppers as always, and got the wool I needed for the dress, while picking up another couple of balls of wool for our lad's blanket but as I was waiting to be served, there was a random person (although she was buying wool) was what I thought quite rude after someone else had left the shop, I really felt bad for the woman who just left. Anyway, I then got home and thought that I would start it straight way, got to a certain part, then unravelled it, started again, unpicked it, started again, you get the gist and by the end of the week I was sick of it, so I have already started making a crocheted square blanket that is all in one and no stitching it all together which I am quite thankful for as I have just realised that I learnt how to do a new stitch in crochet and how to make sure that the sides of a blanket is not too heavy, so with this knowledge I have started on a scraps blanket for our bed, so with the help of people at Ravelry I have started a 310 chain blanket, wish me luck, apparently I need it.

Friday, 22nd Jan: Day 2: Also on the sock front another frogged item, I keep going back to my books (Easy knitted socks &, Jeanette Trotman & Getting Started Knitting Socks (Getting Started series), Ann Budd) but still not getting anywhere, I have had an offer of help from Julia at CraftAngels but every time I go in there I spend money, which is good news for her, but not good news for the husband.

I have also been getting through some podcasts, some good, some bad and a lot  that I couldn't even listen to for five minutes. The first is the first one I listened to and always look forward to the next one to come out and that is Knitty Nora, who is a NE of England person who loves knitting and it is always a joy to listen to, as it is always nice to here an accent that you can relate too, other that the usual American podcasts that people put out. Having said that, the next one that I have been listening to more regularly is socks in the city, by a lady in the the New York Area, a talented lady not only because she can knit socks (in my opinion anyone who does or has has my admiration) but she adapted Harry Potter exerpt and I really though it was a spoiler from the book.  Crochetville a crochet site that seems to be the best for patterns and stuff like that, I just wish there was something like this here, it just would be nice and Electric Sheep, a London based podcast, which I have only just started to listen to since yesterday, which is worth listening to (I just pinched the title from Thomas Edison that she mentioned).

Friday, 22nd Jan: 7 rows with the blanket, still no internet, Catching up on Glee, How I met your mother & The big bang theory.

Sat, 23rd Jan: I'm hoping this will pass, the internet is not on!! Cloudy with a chance  of meatballs and The Pacifier and am on row 16 of the blanket. Trying to convince my honey to take me over to Matthew's so I can get some different colours of DK and I haven't been there before even though it's practically round the corner from where we used to live.

Sunday 24th Jan: Still trying to get on, it is now day four and......feeling guilty as doing crochet blanket and listening to knitting podcasts, I just wish there was a podcast based in the UK about crochet now, and have taken to writing down everything on the piece of paper by the side of me and finding out about other designers like  The Yarn Harlot, Debbie Stoller and sites like knitty.com which I keep coming back to and looking at the paterns and thinking how complicated but lovely looking they are. Anyway, today I have been watching the Let's knit2gether  videos and have a better idea about how to do socks in two circular needles. So no taping so that means I will be fighting for the TV to watch Glee VS QI or Top gear, I'm not sure!!

What do I do craft wise? Amigurimi oh yes, I will try my best to learn more stitches, scarfs, mittens and hats are quite easy to do all I need to do is learn cabling. Jumpers really scare me, I can't imagine getting that amount of wool at the same time, I can just about manage the thought of buying four balls or more of the same wool, I would hate not to have the same wool lot, it would really do my head in. If you haven't guessed already the best thing that I'm enjoying so much is the blanket or if you are an American then it will be an afghan..... OMG it's back on!!!!
